Zadar’s airport at Zemunik is barely 8 km from the peninsula, which makes this one of the shortest airport transfers in Europe: 15–20 minutes, most of it on a straight road. That brevity is exactly why the fixed price matters — short routes are where metered fares and low-cost-carrier arrival surges combine worst. Zadar is also the most convenient airport for Plitvice from the coast, closer than Split and much closer than Zagreb.

Zadar keeps its best trick for the evening: the sea organ and the Greeting to the Sun sit together on the western tip, and the sunset there earned the city Hitchcock’s much-quoted compliment. Plan the arrival so you are not still checking in when it happens. If you are heading to Plitvice, going up from Zadar rather than down from Zagreb saves an hour each way and gets you to the gate before the coach parties.
