Pula Airport to Rovinj

Rovinj is the postcard Istria comes on: a Venetian bell tower on a peninsula of ochre houses, dropping straight into the sea. It is about 40 minutes from Pula Airport, two hours from Trieste and three and a half from Zagreb. Buses connect Pula and Rovinj but not the airport itself, and Rovinj’s old town is pedestrian and steeply cobbled, so the practical question on arrival is always the same one — how close to the door can the car actually get. Rovinj’s old town is a hill with a church on top, and the streets are polished limestone that turns slick in rain — worth knowing before you plan a walk up to St Euphemia in the wrong shoes. Inland, the Mirna valley truffle season peaks in autumn and the hill towns are twenty minutes apart; an hourly chauffeur booking links three or four of them in an afternoon far better than a hire car and a parking hunt.
