The route, honestly explained

Dubrovnik Airport is at Čilipi, roughly 20 km south-east of the city along a coast road that spends most of its length looking down on the Adriatic. The drive is 25–30 minutes. What matters more than the distance is the last hundred metres: the Old Town is entirely pedestrian, so every arrival ends with a walk through Pile or Ploče. A pre-booked driver gets you to the closest legal drop-off for your specific address and helps with the bags — which is not what happens when a shuttle empties sixty people at the bus stop above Pile.

Routes and journey times

Route Typical time Good to know
DBV → Old Town (Pile / Ploče gates) 25–30 min Closest permitted drop-off, luggage carried to the gate
DBV → Lapad & Babin Kuk hotels 30–35 min The big resort hotels and the Copacabana beach strip
DBV → Cavtat ~10 min Practically next door to the airport
DBV → Gruž cruise & ferry port ~30 min For sailings to Korčula, Mljet and the Elaphiti islands
DBV → Ston & the Pelješac wineries ~1 h 20 Oysters, salt pans and the second-longest defensive wall in Europe
DBV → Split ~3 h 30 Now border-free over the Pelješac bridge

Local knowledge

Two pieces of local knowledge worth more than any guidebook. First: if your apartment is inside the walls, send us the street name in advance — the difference between the Pile and Ploče drop-off can be fifteen minutes of walking with a suitcase. Second: the cruise ships dictate the city’s rhythm, so an early breakfast inside the walls is a different experience from an eleven-o’clock one. Your driver can tell you which ships are in on your dates.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town?

About 25–30 minutes for the 20 km, on a coastal road with almost no alternative route, so timings are reliable outside the summer afternoon peak.

Can the car drive me into the Old Town?

No — it is pedestrian-only. We drop you at the nearest permitted point for your address, usually Pile or Ploče, and help carry your luggage to the gate.

Do you meet late flights?

Yes. Dubrovnik has a heavy late-evening arrival bank in summer and we meet all of it, with 60 minutes of free waiting from actual landing time.

Is the Dubrovnik to Split drive still through Bosnia?

Not since the Pelješac bridge opened in 2022. The route is entirely within Croatia now — no border queues. See our dedicated Dubrovnik–Split page.

Can you collect us from a cruise ship at Gruž?

Yes, port pick-ups are routine. Give us the ship name and docking time and the driver will be waiting at the terminal.

What Our Passengers Say

Nine journeys, nine happy passengers — from midnight landings to island ferry connections.

We landed at Split just before midnight and the driver was right there in the hall with a sign, car already cold outside. After a delayed flight and two hours on the tarmac, that calm ride into town was worth every cent.

Sarah M., London

Dubrovnik's old town is all steps and no cars, which I had not thought about. Our driver got us as close as the rules allow and carried both cases to the apartment door. Small thing, enormous difference.

Ingrid S., Oslo

Two kids, four suitcases, Split Airport to Makarska. Child seats fitted without being asked twice, cold water in the door, and the driver stopped for ten minutes when our youngest went green on the coast road.

Emma & Tom R., Dublin

Our flight into Split was an hour late and I was sure we had lost the Hvar catamaran. They had already moved us to the next sailing and the driver was waiting. Nobody panicked except me.

Marco V., Milan

Booked a full day to Plitvice from Zagreb. He dropped us at the right entrance for our ticket, waited four hours with the luggage, and had the car cool when we came out. Far better than the coach.

Anna K., Berlin

Our wedding party moved between the church and two venues near Trogir in an S-Class and a V-Class. Everything on time, everyone unwrinkled in the August heat. Flawless.

Nina & Lars H., Bergen

Dubrovnik to Split with stops at Ston for the walls and the oysters. Since the new bridge there is no border queue at all, and the driver knew exactly where to pull in. The best day of the trip.

Sophie D., Paris

I use them for every business trip to Zagreb. Same driver most visits, invoices without asking, and a fixed price that ignores the morning traffic on the airport road. Effortless.

Peter W., New York

I book them for my parents whenever they fly. The driver meets them inside the terminal, carries everything and drives gently. My mother now refuses to travel any other way.

Ivana P., Zadar
