The route, honestly explained

Dubrovnik and Split are 230 km apart and, until 2022, every road between them crossed the Neum corridor — a short strip of Bosnian coastline with two border posts that could add an hour in August for no reason anyone enjoyed. The Pelješac bridge changed that. The drive is now entirely within Croatia and takes about three and a half hours, and because it is a private car you can break it wherever you like: Ston for the oysters and the walls, the Pelješac wineries, or Makarska for lunch on the way past.

This is the drive where a private car earns its money most obviously. The bus does it in four and a half hours with no stops worth having; the ferry only runs the catamaran route in season and lands you without your luggage sorted. With a car you can stand on the Ston walls, eat oysters pulled out of the bay an hour earlier at Mali Ston, and still be in Split for dinner — and the price is the same whether you stop or not, only the hours change.
